Dreaming of fabric….lace and all things lovely

/images/tessuti_lace.JPG

I set off bright and early with a spring in my step …. today was the day the fabric showrooms were opening …. the first day for 2012.

I had a list a mile long …. fabrics of all kinds and for all sorts of projects. Having not been overly successful in my search in the week before the showrooms closed for the Christmas break, I was determined that today was going to be the day.

The day ended on a high and success on most fronts.  I don’t know whether I was seeing it all through fresh and rested eyes or it was just having a whole day devoted to the task …. and not my usual mad dash ….. but I did discover some beautiful fabrics!!!!

One of my favourites …. Tessuti in Surry Hills.  There are particular corners that I lose myself in …. like the lace …. like the Liberty prints (yes new ones that I hadn’t seen before) and on previous visits …. the wool and cashmere !!

I have decided that Tessuti has a particular vibe …. that of a clientele which interestingly enough includes a large number of fashion students and designers …. all oozing with creativity as they search for the perfect fabric or trim.

More fabric finds to come !!

Ribbons, trimmings and all things passementerie at VVRouleaux in London

‘The Chanel of ribbons and trimmings shops’ Red Magazine. This is one of my favourite shops in London… V V Rouleaux.  Opened by Annabel Lewis in 1990 and now in a new shop in Sloane Square and also Marylebone .

You can’t help but buy miles
of ribbon for wrapping and the selection process does seem to take
forever, there is just too much choice.

Her belief ‘there are no barriers between fashion and decorating, home and catwalk’.

There are irresistible tassles and braids and trims, all very unique.  What did the design world do before V V Rouleaux.

Individual furniture and clothing items in store capture the V V Style far beyond the traditional use of ribbons and trims.

PS. I did love the old shop on the other side of Sloane Square….yes tiny but more of an Aladin’s Cave full of sumptuous jewels
